What the Church Chicks have been up to.
There is a new small group in the church made up of women between the ages of 25-45 called the Church Chicks. We meet every Tuesday at 7:00 pm either in a member’s home or at the church to do a project.
The group began in February studying the Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations and during the book study we decided that what we as a group can do ‘for the love of God’ is service to our church and community. One of the services we attempted to do in early April was to bake cookies to hand out to the families that come for food boxes on Wednesday evenings. We met at the church and attempted to bake cookies. Well the cookies fell a little flat and we were not able to package them up to serve out so we decided to meet the next week and attempt brownies. After a successful browning baking session we created 3 packages (one for each of the families that come for food boxes each week) and attached a handwritten note to the families thanking them for coming to our church and allowing us to serve them. After our attempt to bake cookies in the church we found that the church kitchen could really use some upgrades in supplies so we are in the process of arranging a Pampered Chef party to raise money and new equipment and supplies for the church kitchen. (More details on date and time TBA)
After one of our members had a powerful experience walking a Labyrinth at a Metro District Event during Lent we found out that our church has and unfinished Labyrinth. So we are in the process of assisting in the completion of the Labyrinth for the church to use. Once it is finished we will host a Labyrinth walk for everyone to experience.
After a particularly therapeutic session in March we left each other’s company with the intention of intensely praying for each other during the week. We went around the table and each agreed to pray for the person next to us. This was such a powerful experience that we decided it was a great way to end our sessions each week. We have now made prayer stones that have our names on them. Each week at the end of our meeting we each draw a prayer stone, with someone’s name on it, and agree to carry it with us for the week in order to pray for each other. The next week when we meet again we will bring back the stone and draw a new one.
Coming up for the Church Chicks in May are more service projects, a movie night, group prayer, and fellowship. So if you are a woman between the ages of 25-45 (don’t worry we won’t ‘card’ you) join us each Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm. This small group has developed to provide fellowship, prayer, support, and service to our church, each other, and our community. Please join us! If you think you may not be able to commit to every Tuesday? Don’t worry just come as often as you are able if that is once a week, once a month, or once a quarter you are welcomed.
The location rotates between member’s homes and the church, so if you are interested in attending a meeting please call the church office at 503-646-7107 to find out where we are meeting this week.
